Creating a Dataset from an Existing FLDS

You can create a new dataset where instance data is stored in a journal and choose any associated ontologies. Optionally, you can choose files containing RDF data that you wish to import into the dataset.

Follow the instructions below to create a new disk-based dataset.

  1. Go to the Datasets screen in the Graph Studio application.

  2. The Datasets screen lists the catalog of datasets. For example:

  3. Select Add Dataset > Use Existing Disk Based Dataset to launch the Create Use Existing Disk Based Dataset dialog.

  1. Select an Existing Dataset Storage Directory. This directory should be the existing dataset's root storage directory.

Click Confirm when you are finished.

  1. In the next dialog that displays, choose what should be done when conflicting graphs are found:
  • Replace conflicting graphs
  • Rename conflicting graphs
  • Ignore conflicting graphs

Click OK when you are finished.

  1. If you wish to include any ontology into your dataset, use the Ontology dropdown to select this ontology.
  2. Specify Advanced options as necessary:
  • Force Creation - When selected, Graph Studio overwrites any FLDS in the specified RDF directory with the new one.
  • Target Datasource - Specifies an optional datasource in which to store the dataset.
  • Dataset URI to Use - Specifies a URI to use for the FLDS.
  • Graph URI to Use - Specifies a URI to use for the target graph.
  • Override Target Graph - When enabled and data are imported, overrides all statements's graph with a fixed graph URI.
  • Skip Dataset Types - When enabled and data are imported, ignores graphs containing definitions for datasets, ontologies, and graphmarts.
  • Skip Ontology Definitions Within Imported Data - When selected, ignores ontology definitions included within the data.
  • Generate an Ontology Based on Imported Data - When selected, generates an ontology based on the imported data. Note that this option is only useful when no ontologies are associated with the new dataset or contained within the imported data.
  1. Click Confirm.

The dataset is created and added to the Dataset catalog.
