Setting Up a Workstation for OpenShift Deployment

This topic provides the requirements and instructions to follow for configuring a workstation to use for creating and managing the OpenShift infrastructure. The workstation needs to be able to connect to the Google Cloud API. It also needs to have the required Google Cloud and OpenShift software packages, as well as the sample deployment scripts and configuration files supplied by Altair. This workstation will be used to connect to the Google Cloud API and provision the OpenShift cluster and node pools.

Component Requirement
Operating System The operating system must be an el9 operating system such as RHEL9 or Rocky 9
Networking The workstation should be in the same VPC network as the OpenShift cluster. If it is not in the same VPC, make sure that it is on a network that is routable from the cluster's VPC.
Software
  • Google Cloud SDK is required. For installation instructions, see Install the Google Cloud SDK

  • OpenShift CLI Client: OpenShift Client

  • openshift-install-rhel9-amd64.tar.gz(RHEL)

  • openshift-client-linux.tar.gz(Linux)

  • Linux Packages: curl, wget, tar, ssh-keygen

Once the Google Cloud CLI is installed:

  1. Run the following command to set the default project for the GKE cluster.

gcloud config set project <project_ID> gcloud config set compute/region <compute_region>

  1. Set the region for your deployment.
